three must be a big anniversary year because we have had ongoing celebrations and lovely gifts from our friends and family. aside from enjoying a romantic dinner at eva (where my husband proposed) as a gift from my husband’s lovely mother and grandmother, we had a lovely weekend in westport, on the washington coast. my grandmother is planning a family dinner in our honor at the end of the month, and another set of grandparents treated us to a wonderful dinner on cameno island. friends have sent us lovely cards and gifts.
particularly, i am super excited about the limoges breakfast set from two of our dearest friends. the set is vintage snow white porcelain with butterfly prints on them. the set is for one person, everything is individually sized.
the set came with the delightful suggestion that we serve each other breakfast in bed from time to time–that we treat each other. it’s really a very sweet and fun idea. it is the perfect size for the antique english serving tray that my mother gave me. the set includes lovely pieces that are not really typical of an american food service:
- 2-cup tea/coffee pot
- egg cup
- cereal bowl
- bread plate
- covered entree dish
- carafe for milk or juice
- cream jug
- tea cup
we tried it out with a crisp, white linen lining the tray. toast with strawberry jam, an egg, little sausages keeping warm under the covered dish. paris tea in the pot, mellowed by cream. and cold cereal. it was a lovely treat and made me feel, as i rested against the soft downy pillows and blankets on my bed, like i was enjoying a holiday in a luxurious hotel–and having a lazy morning at that.
the loveliest idea was the suggestion that came with the gift–the idea of treating each other, planning surprises for each other, and doing nice things for each other now, and throughout the coming years. and not to forget to do it.
